Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine in which thin metal needles are used to stimulate very specific points on the body to relieve pain in other areas. Acupuncture is an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine and is used for treating pain and a wide spectrum of health problems. In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is used to rebalance the flow of energy, or qi, along the pathways in our bodies, called meridians, by pinpointing specific points along the pathway.
Unlike conventional medicine, which focuses on attempting to treat disease once it occurs, acupuncture takes on a more preventative approach, focusing on improving your health in an effort to reduce the risk of pain and illness in the first place.
During treatment, the thin needles are inserted through the skin, but because they are so thin, patients typically feel very little to no pain or discomfort. Depending on the patient’s condition, electrical stimulation may also be applied.
Some of the symptoms that acupuncture can treat include:
► Low Back Pain
► Headaches and Migraines
► Neck Pain
► Shoulder Pain
► Hip, Knee, Elbow, and Wrist Pain
► Hand Pain
► Foot Pain/Plantar Fasciitis
More and more people are recognizing the benefit of seeking an alternative to traditional medicine; one that will help them achieve and maintain optimal health.
